There are seasons when life’s storms rage, and our hearts grow weary. In those moments, God speaks two simple but powerful truths:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10 KJV)
“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6 KJV)
Be Still
To “be still” means to cease striving in our own strength, to stop the frantic effort, and to rest in God’s presence. It is an invitation to trust His sovereignty, even when circumstances seem out of control. When we pause and acknowledge “I am God,” we remind ourselves that the Creator of heaven and earth is in charge of our lives.
Know
Knowing God involves both head and heart. We meditate on His character—His faithfulness, power, and unfailing love. As we deepen our knowledge of Him, fear retreats and faith arises. We remember that the One who spoke the universe into being is able to bring order, peace, and purpose to our situations.
He Completes His Work
God does not merely begin good things in us and then abandon the project. Paul’s confidence in Philippians 1:6 rings through the ages: the same hand that started the work of salvation, healing, and transformation will perform it completely. From the moment you first trusted Christ, He has been at work—shaping your character, renewing your mind, and empowering you to live for Him. And He will never stop until the day Christ returns.
“Being confident of this very thing…”
– Paul’s unshakable assurance in God’s faithfulness.
“…he which hath begun a good work in you…”
– Your salvation and growth are God’s initiative, not yours alone.
“…will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
– God’s commitment to finish what He started extends all the way to eternity.
What This Means for You
When you feel anxious, pause and whisper, “Be still, Lord—I know You are God.” When you doubt your progress, remind yourself, “He who began this good work will complete it.” When you face setbacks, rest in the truth that God’s timeline is perfect, and His purposes endure.
Prayer
“Heavenly Father, help me to cease my striving and rest in who You are. I trust that the work You began in me will be brought to completion. Teach me to be still and know that You alone are God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
