The Unchangeable God — His Hand Is Still Stretched Out

Let’s be honest, it’s so easy for us to make God small in our minds. We question Him. We ask if He’s truly going to come through. Will He keep His word? Will He do what He promised? And when He doesn’t show up the way we expected, we start shrinking His sovereignty down to the size of our situations.

The truth is, our human nature is frail and often fueled by fear. Even Christ Himself, God in the flesh, cried out on the cross:

“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”
(Matthew 27:46, KJV)

In the garden, we see the fullness of His humanity:

“Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”
(Luke 22:42, KJV)

Jesus asked for the cup to pass. He felt the weight. But He submitted. And through that painful submission came our salvation, and the glory of God.

That brings me to Isaiah, where despite judgment, we see a merciful God who hasn’t let go:

“For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.”
(Isaiah 9:12, KJV)

His hand is still stretched out.

He’s not withdrawing when we suffer. He’s not absent when we cry. His hand is extended, ready to redeem, restore, and revive.

I was reminded recently by Max Lucado’s words in Anxious for Nothing:

“No problem is unsolvable. No life is irredeemable.”

And the Word confirms it:

“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it?”
(Numbers 23:19, KJV)

When we look at David, a man after God’s own heart, we see him in Psalm 109 praying for God to bring affliction to his enemies. He prayed raw and unfiltered. But in time, the same God who listened to David also taught us to:

“Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you…”
(Matthew 5:44, KJV)

This isn’t contradiction. It’s transformation. It’s the unchanging God shaping changed hearts.

So here’s today’s reflection:
God has not changed. His Word still stands. His hand is still stretched out. Even in your sin, even in your weariness, He is still reaching for you.

💬 Will you grab hold of His hand today? Will you repent and return?
