Chronixx, Culture, and the Gospel: Reflections from “Chronology

I recently found myself relistening to Chronixx’s album, “Chronology.” It’s an album I deeply love—a beautiful, soulful work. But as I listened to the track Selassie, a thought struck me: did Chronixx miss an opportunity to spread the Gospel?

For those unfamiliar, Chronixx has maintained a relatively low profile for a few years, recently returning with a new album I’m eager to explore. Yet, as I immersed myself in Selassie and the entirety of “Chronology,” a realization emerged: the tension between cultural passion and God’s Word.

Chronixx is deeply aware of the Word of God. Yet, his heart is also profoundly moved by the struggles of Black people worldwide. And therein lies a subtle challenge—the intertwining of culture, cultural practice, and the Word of the true and living God, Jesus Christ.

Much like the Israelites of old, tradition and culture often obscure truth and spiritual clarity. We sometimes attempt to confront spiritual matters with merely physical solutions. We try to correct injustices or societal wrongs—but often do so through a filtered form of Christianity, one that picks and chooses what fits cultural trends or personal agendas.

That same dynamic persists today. Chronixx’s “Chronology” was released years ago, yet the climate he observed remains unchanged in 2025. Misrepresentation of the Word of God, or its misuse to fulfill human agendas, is alive and well. And while we may not have imagined it escalating, Scripture reminds us that the Word of God is true, living, and enduring:

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” — Hebrews 4:12 KJV

So, what is the truth we must hold fast? At its core, the Bible consistently teaches LOVE. Love is the fulfillment of the law, the guiding principle of God’s kingdom, and the essence of Christlikeness:

“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.” — Romans 13:8 KJV

“For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” — Galatians 5:14 KJV

“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity [love].” — 1 Corinthians 13:13 KJV

We cannot claim the name of Christ while living in divisiveness, pride, unforgiveness, boastfulness, or judgment toward others. Christlikeness is not measured by cultural alignment, political advocacy, or social activism—it is measured by the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

To be Christlike is to love, serve, forgive, correct with humility, and bear witness to God’s Word without compromise or cultural distortion. It is to reflect God’s heart in both personal conduct and in the work we create—whether music, writing, art, or activism.

Chronixx’s “Chronology” reminds us of a critical lesson: passion for culture and justice is valuable, but it must be rooted in truth. The Word of God is living, and it stands above all agendas. May we, in our music, messages, and movements, honor Him first—letting His truth shape how we love, act, and bear witness in the world.

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” — John 13:35 KJV
